music: "Tangerines and Gingerale," Calliope
In case you were wondering, yes, Calliope is a band, and no, that's not where my screenname came from. Since you've stopped by, I'll tell you the little story about how I discovered them.
I was in a pawn shop in Idaho one sunny afternoon looking through the extensive collection of $2 cds. Amidst my browsing I found myself caught off guard, exclaiming to my mom, "That's my screenname! It's a band! Weird." So, out of pure curiosity, and nothing else, I bought it. The album is self-titled with a pink carousel horse on the cover.
And the amazing thing? I looooove their music. It never really hit the big time, but what indie music does? (Or should?)
They're melancholy, low-key, but not depressing. Sort of, I don't know, I don't want to say Belle & Sebastian, maybe.. well, I don't know how to describe it. It's just really good. Some of the songs don't even have words.. If you want to hear it, just drop me a note & I'll burn you a copy -- apparently it's rather hard to come by.
Okay, now that I'm done enhancing your musical taste, I can get on with the regular entry.
I worked again tonight. But it was a good work, because I got paid too. Mmm, money. Such a nice fat paycheck. It's not that it's unusually fat, because I tend to pick up a fair amount of money in my working world, but the fact is that this is the first time in my life that I've had a job and HAVEN'T had a car to support. And let me tell you, keeping a car in gas, oil, and working parts (or payments) is no easy task. I may as well have gotten pregnant for having bought either of those cars. So, no car for me.
What freedom! What expanses of merchandise I can purchase (via the internet, since I don't have a car, obviously)! Naturally, the only things I have been buying are books and cds, because those are the only important things in the world.
Someone, hold me back.. ;)
